During the operation, doctors and medical staffs use medical terms which they use to understand each other. As a patient it is nice to know the terms and its meaning for you to understand what’s going on inside the operating room. The following are the common terms to consider.
1. Blepharoplasty
Eyelid lift surgery is an eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of lower eyelids, upper eyelids or both.
2. Ectropion
A temporary condition in where the lower eyelid is rolled outward after eyelid surgery
3. General anesthesia
General anesthesia is a drug that is injected during the operation to relieve pain and alter consciousness.
4. Hematoma
Hematoma is a cloth on the skin or blood pooling beneath the skin.
5. Intravenous sedation
Sedatives administered by injection into a vein to help you relax.
6. Local anesthesia
Local anesthesia is a drug injected directly to the site of an incision during an operation to relieve pain.
7. Transconjunctival incision
It is an incision hidden inside the lower eyelid.
8. Skin resurfacing
Skin resurfacing is a treatment to improve the texture, clarity and overall appearance of the skin.
9. Sutures
Sutures are stitches used by surgeons to hold skin and tissue together.
